Andrew is a graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM). When he was pre-med at UC Berkeley, senior year, he met his Tai Chi master who was a renaissance man. Y.C.Chiang was an acupuncturist, martial artist, painter, calligrapher, gardener, and chef. He was the inspiration for a more holistic way of viewing life and health. At the same time, Andrew was volunteering at the SF General Trauma Center and Psych emergency. The contrast between what he was learning at the Tai Chi studio and the way doctors and staff were living was stark. After graduating, he decided to take a year off to contemplate his path and taught English in Japan and traveled throughout Asia. Upon returning to the Bay Area, in 1984, he discovered that it was possible to study acupuncture in California and get licensed. This was news to him. He was enrolled within 3 months at ACTCM and hasn’t looked back since.
Andrew’s favorite part of being an acupuncturist is providing a way to relieve suffering that doesn't cause more suffering. He loves how quickly acupuncture can work, especially with pain. He enjoys interacting with so many people in a direct way, that makes them happy. It makes him happy too. He also appreciates how simple and low tech acupuncture is. It can be done anywhere and without electricity!
Modern Acupuncture has shown up as a vehicle to bring acupuncture to the masses. Andrew feels that it is beautiful, accessible, and affordable. It takes community-style acupuncture and brings it to a whole new level of functionality. The membership model is especially exciting because it enables folks to get the number of treatments they need without worrying about the cost. The hours, along with the reliable systematic way of treatment offered by multiple acupuncturists, make it workable
When Andrew isn’t treating patients, he loves being outdoors. Hiking, backpacking, or lying on the beach. He also loves to travel, and spend time with his family. Meditation and Tai Chi are an integral part of his life.

Sean’s journey into traditional Chinese medicine began back in the early 1990s when he apprenticed with a Tai Qi master and traditional Chinese medicine doctor while he was an undergraduate at UC Davis. Sean’s teacher's wisdom, humility, and commitment to helping others find health and balance left an indelible imprint on him. After two years-long apprenticeships in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Sean began the formal journey in acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 2005. He finds great joy in serving his community and helping people achieve their health and wellness goals.
After giving over 18,000 treatments over nearly ten years, Sean has witnessed acupuncture consistently have a profound and transformational effect on the lives of his patients. He joined Modern Acupuncture Marin to branch out and learn new skills and gain new experience with a different orientation of practice. Sean graduated from the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Catherine studied Acupressure at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California and became a Message Therapist and that stimulated her interest in Chinese Medicine as she learnt about the Meridians and Acupressure Points. Catherine wanted to go deeper and study Chinese Herbs and Acupuncture Points because she felt Acupuncture could help a lot of people with chronic problems and improve their quality of life, so she continued her education at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland, California. She loves the Modern Acupuncture Marin approach to community acupuncture because of how efficient the technique is to make patients’ lives better. Catherine believes the Marin area residents are very sweet and have a healthy lifestyle. They believe in Alternative Medicine and have it as part of their lifestyle.
