Acupressure Points to Help You Fall Asleep

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep.

We have a lot of experience treating insomnia and want to share some of the most effective Acupressure points that you can stimulate at home before bed to help you fall asleep. We recommend following the Acupressure health routine each night before bed and any time you have trouble staying asleep.

 

Heart 7 - Spirit gate

 

This effective stress point is located at the crease on your outer wrist, below your pinkie finger. Stimulating this point is often used for relaxation, quieting a busy mind, and help you fall asleep.

 

Before going to sleep:

  1. Feel for the small space in this area and apply gentle pressure in a circular motion.
  2. Massage for one to two minutes.
  3. Repeat on the same area of your other wrist.

 

SP 6 - Three yin intersection

 

SP 6 is one of the most commonly used acupuncture and acupressures points and is located on your inner leg, just above your ankle. In addition to helping with insomnia, simulating this acupressure point can also help with pelvic and menstural pain.

 

Before going to sleep:

  1. Locate the highest bony part on your ankle. Count four finger widths up your leg, above your ankle.
  2. Apply deep pressure in the muscles of this area, massaging with circular or up-and-down motions for 30 second to 1 minute.
  3. Repeat on the same area of your other leg. 

 

GB 20 - Wind pool

 

One of the most common points for sleep, stress and neck pain, this acupressure pointis located on the back of the neck. Stimulating this acupressure point is great for relaxing tight neck muscles caused by stress and excessive time on computers and phones. 

 

Before going to sleep:

  1. Find the point at the level of your ear lobes,  following the groove to where the neck muscles attach to the skull.
  2. Use your thumbs to apply a deep and firm pressure toward your skull, using circular massage to for 30 seconds.
  3. Massage one side at a time or both sides together.
